Confirmation bias is a tendency to Search for, interpret or remember information in a way that confirms preconceptions or working hypotheses. People can reinforce their existing attitudes by selectively collecting new evidence, by interpreting evidence in a biased way or by selectively recalling Information from memory. Some psychologists use “confirmation bias” for any of these three cognitive biases, while others restrict the term to selective collection of evidence, using assimilation bias for biased interpretation.

I explore the use of confirmation bias in three areas:
1. Alternative health practices
2. Intelligent design creationism
3. HIV/AIDS denialism

If someone is trying to find you, they can do a people Search and all your personal Information can be exposed. I personally have a problem with that. I have been in a abusive relationship. I changed my address and phone numbers. What can I do or where can I go to get my name removed from the system so that I will not be able to be tracked down. If you know of the website or phone numbers please give them to me. This is ridiculous and very scary.

Does google have any tools that can tell you the demographics on people searching for specific search phrases? For example, can I find out the demographics on people that search for ‘red corvette’? What percentage of the people conducting those Searches are male versus female? What percentage are in certain age brackets? etc…etc… Thanks!

Your best bet on Information like this is going to be large data companies like http://www.lexisnexis.com or http://www.acxiom.com, but I’ll let you in a little trick. Go to http://www.quantcast.com and enter in a website that is closely related to the search term you are interested in the target demographic of and it will give you very close results to what I think you are asking. For instance, type in facebook.com, click on "Demographics" on the left, and you will find all the demographics for the average Facebook user – http://www.quantcast.com/facebook.com#demographics. If it’s ‘red corvette’, then I would put in Quantcast the first three results in Google for that search term and it ought to give you some good data. Hope this helps.

There was next to no effort put into this as it isn’t a main priority of mine right now and I can’t edit whatsoever so please don’t moan about it. This gameplay is just what I have gradually picked up overtime after occasionally playing S&D some nights and I never set out to make this montage but had so many clips I decided to follow through with it. How do those websites that find people like people-Search and such get there Information? Is there a way to protect yourself from websites like these?

They usually get their info from "public records". For example, I heard (about 70% sure) that in many states, when you simply register to vote, you are allowing your name and mailing address into public records — and eventually into the hands of these websites.

Many of these websites will allow you to opt-out or suppress your results, but the process to do so either costs money, or is free but cumbersome. Moreover, they won’t opt you out forever, so you’ll need to often re-submit your requests.

Something I learned recently: There are services you can pay to literally reverse lookup a cell phone number. A business associate of mine uses it; yes, it’s true.

Staying safe? Generally limit the amount of things you sign up for or join. Also, next time you move, also get a PO Box or online address and switch all your addresses to that, instead of your home.
